Description
Experience a 9-day journey on the Zagros Mountain Trail, the first long-distance hiking route in Kurdistan. We begin at Lalish to take part in the Yazidi New Year ceremony, one of the oldest living celebrations of Mesopotamia. After Lalish, we hike through remote mountain villages, following the same routes once used by pilgrims of multiple faiths, Silk Road traders, and Peshmerga freedom fighters. Each night, we stay in a different village homestay and eat the local food prepared by our hosts. Along the way, we explore 75,000-year-old Neanderthal caves, hike through changing mountain landscapes, visit forgotten monasteries, and spend time with the families who live along the trail, experiencing the legendary hospitality of Kurdistan in a real and personal way.
